Update of the MCRA platform: advanced interoperability and data connectivity, and improved accessibility

Undefined

To facilitate the implementation of cumulative risk assessment (CRA) in regulatory domains, a need for a transparent, user‐friendly, fit‐for‐purpose and accessible software tool was identified. The Monte Carlo Risk Assessment (MCRA) platform, which was and has been further developed in various EFSA‐RIVM partnerships and national and European projects, was selected to facilitate efficient implementation of CRA. In the current Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA) (2021‐2025), EFSA and RIVM focus on harmonised implementing of CRA methodology in MCRA, interoperability of the platform with other data and model sources, accessibility of the platform by various user groups with diverging needs, and transparency of the platform's source code of the model implementations. The current report describes the collaborative efforts made in the 3rd Specific Agreement (SA) of the FPA, focusing on making MCRA more interoperable, accessible, and secure, and to increase data connectivity. Possibilities to increase interoperability with other data and model sources were investigated in a case study in which a link is created between MCRA and OPEX (EFSAs calculator for non‐dietary exposure to plant protection products). The future use of an application programming interface (API)‐connection to automate data exchange was investigated to enhance data connectivity. Additionally, a security assessment focusing on the safety of privacy sensitive data and user information showed that these data and information cannot be viewed, accessed, or downloaded. User accessibility, specifically a reduction in registration lead time, was accomplished by including additional questions to the registration form.
